Season 2 | Episode 31 | Healing a Broken Heart | Norm Wielsch


 

Norm Wielsch was an agnostic police officer for 26 years, he was exposed to many traumatic incidents. Achieving the rank of commander of a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force. In 1998, he was diagnosed with PTSD and then with an incurable debilitating neuro-muscular disease that caused loss of feeling, muscle strength, and mobility in his hands and feet. Norm had over 30 surgeries cation on his feet within ten years, each time prescribed opioids for his pain. He soon became addicted to opioids. Then his daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness with a poor prognosis. This placed Norm in a downward spiral he couldn’t recover from. After attempting suicide, Norm made some poor decisions that led him to a 14-year prison sentence. God placed people in his life to teach his gospel. He responded to God’s calling, and through divine intervention, his daughter and he was healed. Spending over 8 years in Federal prison, Norm co-pastored church and taught how God heals PTSD. While in prison, Norm obtained a master’s degree in Theology and Christian Counseling and a doctorate in Christian Counseling. He is now an Addiction Counselor, chaplain, and Christian Mental Health Coach specializing in trauma with the intent to start a first responder ministry. Norm wrote a book called, “Christ-Centered Healing of Trauma: Healing a Broken Heart” and a small group study guide. The book is the primary curriculum for “Hope and Healing for Warriors” which is a veteran and first responder ministry. With more healing ministries to follow.
