74-year-old Cynthia K. Armstrong was pronounced dead Saturday night inside her home, while her husband, 76-year-old Ronald Armstrong, succumbed to his injuries Sunday afternoon. The medical examiner's office ruled the deaths a murder-suicide, as Cynthia was killed by her husband Ronald.
Arlington Heights police said officers responded to the home at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, after a male caller reported he had killed his wife and dog and was going to kill himself.
Officers found Cynthia Armstrong unresponsive at the kitchen table and Ronald Armstrong unresponsive but breathing in an adjoining room. Ronald was holding a handgun when discovered.
The Police department had had no contact with the couple before Saturday's call. While the incident is still under investigation, Arlington Heights police (Illinois) said it is believed to be a domestic violence-related incident confined to the home and there is no ongoing public safety risk.
